With an updated site on its way, Bugcrowd approached Abuv to design badges to coincide with their new “Achievements” program. Each set was built to give a visual representation of rewards and new leaderboards on the website.

With the addition of new leaderboards and achievements to the Bugcrowd website, Abuv was asked to create a variety of badges to coincide with each rank. The individual sets were given a theme based on their name. All of the badges had to be made as a vector and saved in the SVG format to allow for scalability in web browsers.

For instance, the “Collaborators” set was created using animals known to work in teams as a visual representation of how often a researcher collaborated with another community member. Once the list of animals were chosen, I coordinated with our illustrator to figure out the proper approach to design each animal. Once the main sketch was illustrated and finalized, I went back and started adding the details. This included fur tufts, teeth, shadows, and highlights. We went through a variety of colors before landing on a cohesive black and white with red eyes.

The “Buggy Awards 2019” badges were created for the winners to display on their site profiles. Each one represents a different award, including P1 Warrior, Most Valuable Hacker, Rookie of the Year, and more. I was given a rundown of what each award meant, and then I created each badge in black and white, eventually adding the colors based off of the Bugcrowd ecosystem.

Lastly, I designed the “Submission Shogun” badges based on military badges in video games. As you climb from one rank to the next, they either get more intricate, change shape, or change color. After the initial shapes and ideas were created, I revisited each design individually and added all of the shadows and highlights, making sure they were consistent across the board.
